Betty Ann Edwards was an only child, born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 8, 1953 to the late Annie Mack Edwards. At an early age, Betty was adopted and raised by the late Henry and Lee Ester Lomax. She was affectionately known as "Betty Boo" by her close family and friends. She departed this life on the morning of June 17, 2023 from Rosemont at Stone Mountain Hospice Care.
Betty attended Berean Seventh Day Adventist School from Kindergarten to tenth grade. Then, she attended and graduated from David T. Howard High School class of 1971. Before graduating from high school, she married her first husband, Stanley Young (1969-1972). To this union two baby boys were born. Unfortunately, they died shortly after birth. Next, she went on to marry her second husband, Truell Jones, and they divorced in 1984. Finally in 1985 she married the love of her life, Richard Johnson. They remained married until his untimely death in 1997. Betty has always been a dependable and hard worker. During the mid 1970s to early 1980s, she worked as a fingerprint technician for the City of Atlanta. In the late 1990s, she worked as a correctional officer for DeKalb County Jail. Ultimately, the career she loved the most and retired from was working as a Courier Driver delivering auto parts. Betty was an independent contractor for over 20 years. This job was a perfect match for her big personality. She loved meeting new people and she never met a stranger. Anyone that knew Betty, knew she had a heart for senior citizens. She would take the seniors to their doctor's appointment and to the grocery store.
In 1991, she and her husband Richard, ran into one of his old high school buddies, Pastor Waymon Stroud, Sr. Little did she know this chance meeting would change their lives forever. That same year she and Richard were both baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. Down through the years, Betty worked and served as the church secretary and on various auxiliaries. She became a part of the Stroud family naturally and spiritually. She humbly called her pastor and first lady "Mom and Dad" and their daughter, LaTosha Woodall, "big sister." Betty was a faithful member of Faith Community Family Life Center until her health no longer allowed her to attend. The last time she attended church, she came through the door in a wheelchair with her hands up thanking God for being able to be there. Her face lit up as she was so excited to see her spiritual family.
Betty is survived by her uncle Horace Edwards; two very special friends - First Lady Nellie Stroud and Julia West; Faith Community church family; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
